Afekta is highlighted as one of the top startup companies in the metabolomics field, according to StartUs Insights, who listed 122 metabolomics startups around the world. Afekta stood out with its Fytovore solution, in which phytochemicals are measured from foods, allowing comparing how different food processing methods may preserve these precious chemicals with beneficial impact on our health.
Among the top 5 companies were also another European startup, UK-based Prometheus metabolomics, focused on identifying biomarkers for metabolic diseases. QuLab is an Israeli company providing personalized metabolic profiling for an early detection of prediabetes. Two companies were chosen from North America: Adapsyn from Canada, which screens for novel bacterial metabolites for therapeutic applications, and Million Marker from California, USA, which offers a kit for monitoring exposure to environmental agents.
The high number of metabolomics startups could be expected because of the emerging nature of the research field. Based on the top 5 companies, it can also be seen that while they are potential competitors, each of them is focusing on different aspects of utilizing metabolomics for improving health. Overall, this is good news for both the companies in the forefront of developing new metabolomics solutions and for customers seeking for new approaches to improve their own health or have their product stand out in the competition.
